WoA build 18990.1 unable to install unsigned .msixbundle

Post by The_GTA » Tue Oct 22, 2019 8:59 am

After compiling and bundling an open source app (in this case InkCards) without certificate signature I decided to copy the resulting .msixbundle onto my Lumia 950 running WoA. I enabled Developer Mode in the Windows security settings. Then I tried double clicking on the file to install the package. I got the following error:

HRESULT: 0x800B0100

How can I install an unsigned UWP app without signature? If not, can a fake signature be created and used? And maybe out of curiousity, how difficult is it to apply for an official Microsoft certificate?

Thankful for any directions.

You can create a self-signed certificate. It isn't easy, but if you follow this: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/window ... ge-signing

It can be done.

Then, use SignTool to sign the app. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/window ... g-signtool

I used to dabble in XBox One Homebrew and it uses a lot of the same tools for UWP. I got out of it because the documentation on Microsoft's website is horribly outdated or impossible to find.
